Senorita - The Low Anthem (performed in the Pyrenees)
Written by Ben Knox Miller of The Low Anthem and included on their 2007 album, What The Crow Brings.
I have been playing this song for many years but I found myself walking across the Pyrenees with a travel guitar and felt that I had to at least try and record a version of it given the lyrics, "I'll follow you forever through the smoky Pyrenees".
I asked a passing hiker for help filming and it turned out that she had a harmonica - I usually play a harmonica on my version of this song. The harmonica that she had was in the key of C and I would usually play the song in D but I enjoyed singing it in a slightly lower register. As you can see I didn't have a harmonica brace so my camerawoman al...

It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - Bob Dylan
Просмотров 9794 года назад
Written by Bob Dylan and released on his 1965 album "Bringing It All Back Home". I've been playing this song for well over a decade now, I learned it from a wee chord book I had when I was a teenager. A book? Printed pages? With chords in? I know, I must be old. I had my biggest, dirtiest Dylan phase in my late teens and, though I've had some dangerous relapses over the years, I really haven't ...
Rovin' Gambler - Traditional North American folk song
Просмотров 7474 года назад
A traditional North American folk song dating from the late 19th/early 20th century. I've heard various versions of this song but it's been years since I've listened to anyone else doing it and I suspect my version has gone a bit astray (as always). #folksong #busking #harmonica Subscribe to Slow Town Clock Music - a RUclips channel for my own original music: ruclips.net/channel/UCW0P-yLxFvGSiX...

Просмотров 3894 года назад
Written by Ryan Adams and included on his 2000 album "Heartbreaker". It's been a long time since I've listened to Ryan Adam's recording of this song but I suspect my version has probably mutated quite far from the original over the many years that I've been playing it. This version was recorded September 2020. Subscribe to Slow Town Clock Music - a RUclips channel for my own original music: ruc...
When I'm Sixty-Four - The Beatles

Written by Paul McCartney (when he was about 15!) and later described as "granny music shit" by John Lennon. Included on The Beatles' 1967 album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". I Need My Girl - The National

Written by Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Bryan Devendorf and Scott Devendorf of the American alternative rock band The National, and included on their 2013 album "Trouble Will Find Me". I've been playing this song for a few years now using the built-in delay effect on my Roland amp. I thought I'd try recording it to experiment with adding guitar effects in post (nothing fancy - ...
Fakenham Fair - English song with mysterious origins (see description below) (Bellowhead, Jon Boden)
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.4 года назад
I first heard this song over a decade ago on Bellowhead's 2008 album "Matachin". Jon Boden of Bellowhead seems to have heard it from Norfolk folk singer Peter Bellamy who apparantly states in the liner notes of his 1968 album "Mainly Norfolk" that he heard it from a Peter Bullen, who in turn heard it from his grandfather. It's unclear as to whether Bullen's grandfather actually wrote the song, ...
Sloop John B. - Bahamian folk song/Beach Boys (acoustic guitar cover with vocal harmonies)
Просмотров 9 тыс.4 года назад
Although probably best known as a song by The Beach Boys, this is actually a Bahamian folk song from Nassau (I'd imagine mid to late 19th century), transcribed by Richard Le Gallienne as "The John B. Sails" and first published in 1916. The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson based his arrangement of the song on the 1958 Kingston Trio version (called "The Wreck of the John B.") but changed a couple of lyri...
Westering Home - Scottish folk song about Islay (with accordion and vocal harmonies) (The Corries)
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
The words to this song ("Westering Home") were written by Glasgow composer and choral-master Hugh S. Robertson sometime around 1921 to a traditional Gaelic tune ("Eilean Mo Chridhe"/"Isle of My Heart"). This version is based on a recording by The Corries' (I can't find what year it was recorded) that I heard on their 2007 compilation album "Traditions: 18 Scottish Favourites" - the only version...
As the Dawn Breaks - Richard Hawley (featuring local songbirds)
Просмотров 8724 года назад
Written by Sheffield songwriter Richard Hawley and included on his 2009 album "True Love's Gutter". I've tried to do a pretty faithful-to-the-original cover version here (for a change) but I had to shift the key quite a bit as I don't have a beautiful deep baritone like Mr. Hawley. I actually stuck a mic out the window and recorded some bird song to mix in at points throughout the track - a big...

Look into the history behind the song and you’ll find its about a scottish highlander accused by police of being an irishman sent away frlm the country (who had a stereotype of being lawbreakers) and he tries to explain that he isnt irish but that he admires them regardless of the negative stereotype

Fantastic. Hello Jamie. That was fun. Greetings from Oregon. This last week a freezing winter rain fell on Portland and crusted the streets and cars in ice and I, homebound, still in pajamas at two pm., was surfing youtube and listening to Old Town Clock when I found "Jamie's Songbook" and this video. This low-fi is wonderful. It takes me there. Seven months ago, June 22nd, there was a pea-soup fog and cold drizzle there, in the Pyrenees and I dropped my pack and sat in that stone shelter on that concrete bench exactly where you sat and sang the next day. I was joined by perigrinos from Japan and Italy. We fumbled with language as we rested for a bit, but we did not have the refreshment of your singing and playing and harping. I am glad that I met you and got to hear you sing. As Patrick said your voice is sweet and soulful. Buen Camino -

A truly beautiful little concert. I especially like "Ae Fond Kiss". The slight variation of the tune from how I learned it. Burn's poems really are songs, just seeing them on the page doesn't do them Justice.

This is a fantastic version of this song, sung with a Scots accent but so clearly that I could hear the lyrics better than Danny Carnahan's version, which is also very nice. Thanks. My husband likes it too. Do you have an album out? If so, we would buy it! I looked online, but all I could find was an older guy with the same name. I did find that you celebrated Imbolc- happy upcoming Yule!

My mother's anscestors on the Scottish side of my family were Jacobites who were exiled to Virginia as indentured servants so I am always very moved by Jacobite songs. A lovely version. As I commented before, you have incredible focus and attention to detail. So much of singing Traditional music is what I call "transmission" which means going back into the past and the experience bringing the song forward. I perform this way, and you do it to a dramatic degree.

I love Leonard Cohen, but actually this is the best version of this song I ever heard. I don't care for the way the female chorus is done in the original, this is better! I wanted to comment that as I musician myself I can't help but notice your incredible focus while you are performing. It shows up on your other videos too. Thanks!
